Developed with artist Ian Love, Impressions I is part of a growing collection exploring how form, color and material enter everyday life.
The design
A round wood top gives Impressions I a clear center. Beneath it, colored volumes gather into a single base, with open spaces that reveal parts of the room beyond. As the viewpoint changes, one surface overlaps another and the balance of color shifts.
The tabletop provides an everyday surface above this sculptural arrangement. Its simple outline gives the varied contours beneath it room to be seen.
Material and making
The pigmented microcement elements are formed and finished separately, then nested together. Their meeting edges and contrasting colors make the relationship between the parts visible.
A recessed steel plate beneath the tabletop provides structure. The wood surface above and colored forms below retain their distinct material character.
