Developed with artist Ian Love, Impressions II is part of a growing collection exploring how form, color and material enter everyday life.
The design
An extended wood top connects two separate groups of forms. Space between the bases becomes part of the composition, while openings within them offer another view through the piece. Looking along the table or across its width changes the relationship between the colored elements.
This longer arrangement gives Impressions II a different presence from the round, single-base Impressions I. Both explore the meeting of a wood surface and a sculptural base.
Material and making
The pigmented microcement elements are formed and finished separately, then brought together into each base. Their textured surfaces give the colored forms a presence that becomes more apparent up close.
Rounded edges, meeting lines and openings create a changing view through the piece. What reads as one composition from across the room becomes a series of individual forms as you move closer.
The extended wood tabletop joins the two bases visually. Its continuous surface sits above contrasting volumes and the open space between them.
