The Problem Audiophiles Face

You've spent years perfecting your listening room. Speakers positioned to the millimeter. Room treatment calibrated. Every component is chosen with care. Then you sit down in a traditional chair—an Eames lounge, a leather recliner, whatever looks good—and something's wrong.

The headrest reflects sound directly back into your listening position. Flat surfaces create comb filtering in the critical 1-4kHz range where vocals and midrange detail live. The soundstage collapses. Imaging blurs. The detail you paid thousands to capture is obscured by your furniture. This is the problem we set out to solve with Brodmann Acoustics.

Engineered from the Ground Up

Tall Rear Panel

Sculpted high back is gently reclined and monolithic in form, engineered to minimize rear-wall reflections.

Seamless Upholstery

Eliminates the possibility of microreflections around the ear caused by seams.

Recessed Diffusion Panels

Curved, foam-upholstered panels absorb sound energy, while exposed wood surfaces between them diffuse mids and highs. This layered construction borrows from architectural acoustic treatments, using chair curvature and sloping geometry to redirect and soften rear reflections—without over-damping the space.

Postural Support

Upright, relaxed posture reduces fatigue and keeps you centered in the soundstage.

Carved Waves

Non-parallel, wave-like ridges within the inner arms scatter frequencies in the 1kHz–4kHz band.

100% Recycled

Crafted from 100% recycled materials, including mineral-bound composite wood—no virgin foam or plastic.

Core Shell & Base Monobloc

Fabricated from FSC-certified recycled beechwood bound with natural resins; curved surfaces provide passive low–mid absorption (~35% between 125–1000 Hz).

Six Ways Acoustically Engineered Seating Transforms Your Listening Experience

Maintains Optimal Ear Height & Head Position

Keeps you centered within the soundstage with precise ear positioning that preserves spatial clarity and imaging. The relaxed, upright posture reduces fatigue while maintaining the ideal listening position—so you stay in the sweet spot for hours without conscious effort.

Blocks Rear Reflections

A high, gently reclined back blocks rear reflections while an open front eliminates cupping effects. Typically, you would need to have a lower headrest to achieve this, but the positioning of the chair became crucial. This allows for positioning nearer a wall without any sacrifices. All surfaces slope to diffuse reverb naturally—preserving the room's spaciousness without deadening its acoustic energy or collapsing the soundstage.

Diffuses Mid-High Frequencies Naturally

Carved interior arms diffuse mid-high frequencies, reducing reverb and reflections for a more natural sound. The functional geometry scatters sound energy across the critical 1-4kHz range—where your ears are most sensitive and where detail lives.

Developed with Brodmann Acoustics

Created in collaboration with Brodmann Acoustics—makers of reference-grade loudspeakers trusted by discerning listeners worldwide—to ensure acoustic integrity. Vienna's audio engineering heritage and decades of expertise are applied to where you sit.

100% Renewable, Zero Virgin Materials

Constructed from 100% renewable, mineral-bound composites with zero virgin foam or plastic content. Built by hand in Westhampton Beach with the care of bespoke furniture—designed to last generations with every material recyclable at end of life.

Integrates Beautifully into Refined Spaces

Designed to integrate beautifully into listening rooms, studios, and living spaces—without looking like "equipment." Supports analytical listening, casual enjoyment, and restorative stillness with lasting comfort. Statement piece that completes the space without competing with it.

The Collaboration

Brodmann Acoustics brings the full depth of Viennese musical heritage to bear. Together, we set out to answer a question rarely asked: What if the seat was treated as part of the acoustic system, with the same level of consideration and intent?

Every Curve With Purpose

Sloped forms minimize parallel surfaces and help reduce standing waves. Vertically carved interior arms diffuse mid- and high-frequency energy away from the ears to reduce near-field reflections. The high back is gently reclined and fully radiused, blocking rear reflections while maintaining openness, avoiding cupping and dead zones.

Integrated Treatments

The rear panel blends curved foam-wrapped segments for absorption with exposed wood for broadband diffusion, mimicking wall treatment strategies typically reserved for room-scale acoustics. Seamless upholstery and compound curves eliminate hard breaks and flutter, helping to preserve tonal balance and prevent comb filtering at the source.

Sustainable by Every Measure

The Oyster Listening Chair is constructed from 100% recycled and renewable materials—from FSC-certified reclaimed wood bonded with food-safe adhesive, to solvent-free recycled natural fabrics, and high-performance recycled acoustic foam. Every component was chosen to perform beautifully, with zero compromise to the environment.
